It’s Gift Card Season…

Bindagraphics is up to the Challenge!

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) estimates that in 2005, gift cards accounted for 12% of total holiday expenditures or roughly $30 billion. With gift certificate sales expected to grow again this year, these cards are big business!

For the past two years, we’ve met the challenge of making and distributing holiday gift card carriers for one of our valued customers. First, Bindagraphics foil stamped the gift card carriers and the envelopes for the carriers on our large format, high tonnage Bobst foil stamper. Then we blanked the carriers and envelopes on our high-speed Bobst diecutter/blanker (blanking allowed us to avoid a guillotine cutter which would have added time and expense). Finally, our creative machine operators brought together the equipment to fold, glue, attach a gift card, and apply a removable label, all in one pass. The job shipped to over 1,000 retail stores in North America.  We made it happen for them, and we can make it happen for you, too!

All We Want for Christmas…

is a new perfect binder!…one that would…run 12,000 pieces per hour, have signature recognition on each of 24 pockets (to eliminate misfeeds ending up in the finished product), use PUR and conventional glues, run 2-up work (Oh, my! That’s 24,000 an hour!), lay flat, bind a 3" book—and to get really greedy, we asked for automatic make-ready features (good-bye 3 hours, hello 30 minutes!). Well, we must have been good this year ‘cause Santa says that our new state-of the-art KOLBUS Publica Binder is on the high seas right now and should be ready for action in January!

Bindagraphics Educates

We were excited to host three large groups in November. First, we welcomed an overflow crowd of print and graphics professionals to our half-day Binda University class that included a guided tour or our facility. Second, the Production Club of Baltimore spent an educational and social evening at Bindagraphics. And third, we hosted the Concoran College of Art and Design to an educational seminar. We’d love to show you what we’re all about—contact Mattie Gartrell to register for our spring Binda U session (date TBD), or call your Account Manager to arrange for a tour.

Mission Impossible-
150,000 Pads in One Weekend

We recently had a customer call on a Friday afternoon to see if we could produce 50,000 each of three different versions of 3"x 5" pads with 25 leaves and a chipboard backer. The job included a 5" piece of d-tape across the back, and a drilled 1/4" center hole. The kicker—they needed a guaranteed Monday delivery to land the account!

Bindagraphics unleashed the power of our people (they don’t call us ‘The Commitment Company’ for nothing!). We used some favors that were owed to us and sourced chipboard and tape from several suppliers. Our production engineers coordinated a job plan. We gave the printer the green light, who in turn cranked up the presses. We pretaped the backer 16-up, inserted chipboard every 25 sheets, put our automatic padder on high speed, and set the drills humming. The result: a completed job—signed, sealed, and delivered on Monday.  Bindagraphics—bring it on!
